Hamburg's electrolysis shines in a new light

At the Hamburg aluminum smelter, a completely renewed lighting system provides the necessary brightness in the plant halls. The ceilings of the three electrolysis halls were fitted with new LED luminaires in May.

This was a considerable amount of work, as a total of 540 sodium vapor lamps, which had previously provided light at a height of twelve meters, had to be replaced with modern light-emitting diodes. Installation during ongoing operations went smoothly and was even completed two weeks ahead of schedule. The retrofit has several advantages.

Sustainability topic

LED lamps consume less energy and thus reduce costs. They also provide brighter light and thus increase occupational safety.
