TRIMET receives first ASI certificate

TRIMET’s Gelsenkirchen plant has completed certification in accordance with the Performance Standard of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI).

This means the aluminium specialist’s recycling plant meets globally applicable requirements for ecologically and socially sustainable production, as well as responsible corporate governance in the aluminium industry. The assessment, based on a total of 59 criteria, was carried out by TÜV Nord Cert GmbH.

“The certification of our production plant in Gelsenkirchen in accordance with ASI requirements confirms our company’s efforts to further develop sustainable processes and products,” says Philipp Schlüter, Chairman of the Executive Board of TRIMET Aluminium SE. “Social and environmental responsibility has always been part of TRIMET’s self-image and is a key guideline for our actions. Sustainability is a decisive competitive factor in our industry. As a raw materials manufacturer, TRIMET has a special responsibility. By continuously improving the environmental standards of our production sites and producing aluminium in a climate-friendly way, we are also making a contribution to the European Union’s Green Deal and to achieving global climate protection targets.”

The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative sets internationally recognized industry standards for the responsible production and use of aluminium that meet the requirements of environmental and social sustainability. The non-profit organization brings more than 190 aluminium producers and processors from the entire aluminium value chain together with non-governmental organizations to develop certification procedures for the responsible production, procurement, processing and recycling of aluminium under ethical, social and environmental criteria.
