May 20, 2014 | On May 20, 1994 the Alusuisse subsidiary LMG became Aluminium Essen GmbH. With that, the electrolysis plant and adjoining foundry became part of what is now TRIMET Aluminium SE.

On May 20, TRIMET Aluminium SE is celebrating 20 years of being in Essen. The moving and important moment for TRIMET marked a decisive point in the company’s history: its first steps into the production of primary aluminum. TRIMET’s acquisition of the plant north of Essen saved it from closure and safeguarded the jobs of the 380 employees working there at the time.

“The 20th anniversary of the TRIMET plant in Essen is a proud milestone for the entire company. By acquiring and keeping open the Essen plant, TRIMET became a one-stop shop, covering the entire product cycle of production, trading, and recycling. The location – and the company – owes its success to the special team spirit. We have grown together over the last 20 years and have overcome a number of challenges. We will also continue to do so in the future,” says Dr. Martin Iffert, CEO of TRIMET Aluminium SE.

Around 700 employees now work in the aluminum electrolysis halls, foundry, and research laboratory at the TRIMET plant in Essen.
