TRIMET joins Aluminium Stewardship Initiative
“The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative sets internationally recognized industry standards for the responsible production of aluminium which meets the requirements of ecological and social sustainability. As an independent family business with a long-term orientation, we would like to contribute to the future development of these standards,” said Philipp Schlüter, Chairman of the Executive Board of TRIMET Aluminium SE.
The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative aims to promote environmental and social sustainability in the production, use and recycling of aluminium worldwide. The non-profit organization brings aluminium producers and processors from the entire aluminium value chain together with non-governmental organizations to develop certification procedures for the responsible production, procurement, processing and recycling of aluminium under ethical, social and environmental criteria. Once a company location has completed the two ASI certification procedures, it can offer certified “ASI aluminium”.
As a producer of primary and recycled aluminium with production sites in Germany and France, TRIMET is committed to a production of the light metal which preserves resources and protects the environment. For example, the family-owned company is investing in new furnace technology for its recycling plants, which saves energy and reduces emissions while also making process heat from the aluminium smelters available as energy for customers. In addition, the materials specialist is currently testing an innovative process that makes fused-salt electrolysis more flexible by adapting aluminium production to the fluctuating power generation of wind and solar power plants.
