The trimal®-05 alloy (AlSi10MnMg) is a die casting alloy with low iron content and has been developed for die casting parts requiring supreme static and dynamic properties. The alloy is produced in the TRIMET Aluminium SE smelter in Essen on a high-purity metal basis, thereby guaranteeing very good mechanical properties and outstanding corrosion resistance.
You need a robust alloy for demanding projects – we have it: trimal®-05
Die casting parts made using trimal®-05 can be subsequently fitted with no further corrosion protection measures.
Castability is excellent thanks to a silicon content of approx. ten percent. Parts with thin walls and numerous ribs can easily be cast. The balanced ratio of iron to manganese prevents the dreaded sticking of the part to the mold and increases the mold service life. The strength of the parts is regulated by adjusting the magnesium content.
trimal®-05 is a weldable alloy and can be used with all common welding methods. The material combinations cast/cast and wrought/cast are possible and are used in practice. Elongation of over 15 percent is possible following appropriate heat treatment.
The following mechanical properties were measured on real parts and represent reference values for the use of this alloy. The strength and elongation values are defined by adjusting the magnesium content, i.e. low magnesium content produces high elongation and medium strength, while high magnesium content is chosen for high strength and medium elongation.
|Temper||Yield strength Rp0.2 MPa||Tensile strength Rm MPa||Elongation A %||Hardness HB|
|F||> 130||> 290||> 7||> 75|
|T0||> 85||> 190||> 10||> 75|
trimal®-05 is used for applications in which the static and dynamic properties of the part must meet the highest demands. Such parts include integral subframes, space frame nodes, engine subframes, and steering columns. Depending on requirements, the trimal®-05 die casting part can be supplied in its as-cast state or given an appropriate heat treatment.
