Thomas Reuther’s career began with an apprenticeship as industrial clerk at Böhler AG in Düsseldorf. Reuther was subsequently responsible for the acquisition of raw materials – such as alloyed scrap metals, alloys, and master alloys – at the manufacturer of stainless steel and tool steel. While working full time, he attended evening classes to acquire a degree in business administration.
Thomas Reuther left Böhler AG in 1989 and joined the recycling division of VAW (Vereinigte Alumiumwerke, now Norsk Hydro) in Grevenbroich, where he soon assumed responsibility for metal management and the marketing of casting alloys.
In 2000 Thomas Reuther joined what is now TRIMET Aluminium SE. He oversaw the TRIMET recycling plants in Gelsenkirchen and Harzgerode from 2001 and was also responsible for trading scrap metal. In addition to these activities, he was managing the TRIMET automotive plants in Harzgerode and Sömmerda from July 2008 until April 2014.
Since June 2014 he is mainly responsible for marketing & sales, distribution, commodity procurement as well as for research and development.
Thomas Reuther has been a member of the TRIMET Aluminium SE executive board since March 1, 2009.
