With new casting carousels and increased production capacity, the Hamburg site is strengthening its competitiveness

Hamburg Site Nearing Production Expansion
The new casting carousels produce aluminum blocks weighing up to 800 kilograms each.

The Hamburg site is in the final stages of its production expansion for aluminum sows. Following extensive planning and initial construction preparations in 2023, recent months have seen foundation work, hall construction, and outdoor area preparations completed. Now, with the installation of two new casting carousels, the project enters its final stretch. Initial test runs for commissioning began in mid-December.

The teams on-site are giving it their all: ten truckloads of materials had to be delivered to the new production hall and installed. Around seven kilometers of cable were laid to connect the new casting carousels to the control container. Once operational, the expanded capacity will allow the team to produce up to 145,000 tons of aluminum sows annually – a significant increase from the current capacity of 48,000 tons per year with a single carousel.

Dr. Andreas Lützerath, CTO of TRIMET Aluminium SE, praises the efforts of the Hamburg team: “What our colleagues are achieving here in Hamburg is impressive. This production expansion not only adds capacity but also secures the site’s competitiveness and reinforces our position as a reliable partner for our customers.”

The new casting carousels are designed to produce aluminum blocks with a unit weight of up to 800 kilograms. This expansion represents a major milestone in ensuring the future development of the Hamburg site.
