Philipp Schlüter assumes Chairmanship of the European Aluminium Association

27.04.2023

Philipp Schlüter is the new Chairman of the industry association European Aluminium. The members of the European Aluminium Association elected the CEO of TRIMET Aluminium SE to succeed Ingrid Jörg, who had led the association for the past two years. Schlüter has been Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of European Aluminium since 2020.

He takes on the task at a difficult time for the industry. Due to the ongoing energy crisis, primary aluminium production in Europe has slumped by around 50% in the past year and a half. The processing industry and the recycling sector are also facing major challenges.

“Political action is urgently needed to avoid a further decline in production,” says Philipp Schlüter. “The aluminium industry plays a crucial role in Europe’s economy and society. It not only provides jobs but also a sustainable material for green future technologies. Our aim is to persist in contributing towards the growth and prosperity of Europe. It is imperative to find effective solutions to ensure the long-term security of production sites. I will collaborate with our members and partners to find these solutions through constructive discussions with policymakers.”

European Aluminium views itself as the voice of the aluminium industry in Europe. Based in Brussels, the association represents the entire value chain of the aluminium industry. European Aluminium has over 100 members representing more than 600 production sites in 30 European countries.
