TRIMET has successfully completed a key infrastructure project at its Essen site: a new scrap storage hall, including extended outdoor areas, is now ready for operation. Once the final interior installations are completed in early 2026, the facility will go online and significantly strengthen TRIMET’s recycling capabilities.
The new hall enables segregated storage of different aluminium scrap grades, aluminium pieces, and primary metalsuch as T-bars, ingots, and sows. Together with the new outdoor storage areas, the facility ensures precise material separation, improved quality control, and more efficient workflows. With an added capacity of around 16,000 tons, it significantly enhances logistics and material flow.
The building also houses modern offices, social areas, and a workshop, along with designated parking for industrial vehicles. Short distances between material intake, storage, and casting improve efficiency and reduce handling time.
A new covered sampling station ensures safe access for inspecting incoming trucks. Here, materials are visually checked and analyzed using spectrometers to detect differences in aluminium content, impurities, and piece size.
“The new facility not only improves our logistical processes but also supports our sustainability goals,” says Dr. Andreas Lützerath, member of the Executive Board of TRIMET Aluminium SE. “It marks another step toward increasing the share of recycled aluminium in our production and using resources more efficiently.”
With this investment, TRIMET reinforces its commitment to circular economy and expands Essen’s role as a key hub for aluminium recycling.
