Aluminum producer TRIMET is ramping up its production facilities for aluminum manufacturing. After restarting numerous electrolysis furnaces at its production sites in Essen, Voerde, and Hamburg earlier this year, the remaining production areas are now following suit. Over the past months, TRIMET has invested in the installation of new furnaces as well as the modernization and refurbishment of existing ones.

By mid-2025, the aluminum plants in Essen and Hamburg are expected to reach full capacity, while full-scale operations in Voerde are projected to begin at the start of the fourth quarter of 2025. The aluminum plant in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, France, has already brought all its furnaces back online. Once complete, TRIMET’s three production facilities in Germany will produce approximately 395,000 tons of primary aluminum per year, complemented by an additional 145,000 tons from the French plant.

“As a regional producer of essential materials, we are fulfilling our responsibility and preparing to meet the growing demand for aluminum in Germany and Europe,” says Philipp Schlüter, CEO of TRIMET Aluminium SE. “Aluminum is the metal of the future, essential for achieving the green transformation. That’s why we are consistently investing in the advancement of our facilities to achieve our goal of climate-neutral aluminum production by 2045.”

During the temporary production shutdown, TRIMET utilized the time for extensive modernization and expansion of its facilities. Over the past two years, the family-owned company has particularly focused on digitizing its aluminum plants, renewing power control systems, and researching emission-free furnace technology. At the same time, TRIMET expanded its recycling and foundry capacities to meet the growing demand for secondary aluminum.
