The TRIMET plants in Hamburg and Voerde have completed certification in accordance with the Performance Standard of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). All of the family-owned company’s primary aluminium production sites now meet the globally applicable requirements for ecologically and socially sustainable production and responsible corporate management in the aluminium industry. The certification covers the development, production and distribution of primary and recycled aluminium in cast and liquid form. The extensive tests required for this were carried out by TÜV Nord Cert GmbH.

“With the certification of our production sites in Hamburg and Voerde, we have reached an important milestone in our sustainability strategy,” says Philipp Schlüter, Chairman of the Executive Board of TRIMET Aluminium SE. “With Essen and Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, and now Hamburg and Voerde, all of our primary production sites meet leading industry standards for the aluminium value chain. TRIMET continues to develop innovative technologies and efficient processes to minimize our environmental impact and help shape a sustainable future for us all.”

TRIMET is pursuing the goal of achieving climate-neutral production of aluminium by 2045. To this end, the materials specialist is continuously investing in the modernization of its production facilities and the development of new technologies. These include the new METRICS® process control system, which establishes a uniform company-wide standard at the highest level. In the future, it will replace various control systems at several sites and form the technological basis for green transformation. In addition, TRIMET is currently engaged in a research project focused on an inert anode that releases oxygen instead of carbon dioxide during aluminium production. This innovative process requires new furnace technology, which TRIMET is developing with the help of METRICS®.

The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative is a global, non-profit organization that promotes the responsible production, sourcing and processing of aluminium. Its more than 310 members include aluminium producers and processors along the entire value chain, as well as leading civil society organizations. The certification program is the only voluntary initiative for sustainability standards in the aluminium industry. It covers environmental, social and corporate governance areas.
