TRIMET turns 40 – and looks ahead

07.05.2025

TRIMET will celebrate its 40th anniversary on May 7. What began in 1985 as a small metal trading company with just three employees has grown into Germany’s largest aluminum producer and a reliable materials partner for the processing industry. Today, more than 2,400 people work at the company’s smelters, recycling plants, and foundries. As a family-owned business, TRIMET is committed to securing the long-term future of its sites—and to shaping what lies ahead.

“TRIMET stands for four decades of aluminum expertise—and for the future of coming generations,” says Philipp Schlüter, CEO of TRIMET Aluminium SE. “Our responsibility goes beyond producing a key material: We secure jobs, train young talent, invest in climate-friendly technologies, and actively contribute to the transformation of industry. As a domestic supplier of essential raw materials, we play a vital role in the future of Europe’s industrial base.”

TRIMET sees itself as an innovator with a sense of social responsibility. The company’s focus on aligning its sites with sustainability goals reflects its commitment to both economic and social stability. At the core of this is the transformation to climate-neutral aluminum production—a challenge TRIMET is addressing with pioneering spirit and in-house technological expertise. As a family-run business, TRIMET relies on strong team cohesion.

“Our employees are the heart of TRIMET. Their passion, ideas, and willingness to break new ground are what make our success possible,” Schlüter emphasizes. “Together, we are driving developments that will benefit generations to come.”

TRIMET is making consistent investments in innovation across all areas of production: A proprietary control system digitalizes and connects operations at its smelters. A large-scale pilot project is testing the loss-free transmission of electricity using superconductors. The use of industrial waste heat for district heating and power generation demonstrates how efficiency and climate protection can go hand in hand. In the field of aluminum electrolysis, TRIMET is setting new benchmarks: The company is currently developing inert cell technology that completely avoids CO₂ emissions. Even today, TRIMET’s smelters are equipped for flexible load management and can adapt to fluctuating power from wind and solar sources.

“Sustainability and innovation are the foundation of a future-ready industry,” says TRIMET CEO Schlüter. “And they are a promise to young people seeking a career with purpose and responsibility.”
